Fall in Kansas City means two months packed with as many sports, food, art and music as you can fit in your schedule. Even better, it’s a span of beautiful weather and activities blissfully removed from the pressures of the holiday season later in the year. Even if you’re still recovering from the end of summer you might want to think of these next few months as a marathon of fun, rather than a sprint. With all there is to do in town, you might find yourself wanting to add one more thing to the agenda.

Sporting Fan Paradise

Last year’s Forever October run at the World Championship pennate did more than re-invigorate the sport for long-suffering Royals fans, it also served as a metro-wide boost in Kansas City pride. This time of year, local sporting fans have their choice of local pride cheering on racing, baseball, football and/or soccer. Plus, with the Royals currently in first place in the American League Central Division who wouldn’t love the possibility of another Forever October season for the Kansas City Royals?

Musical Entertainment

This month, the Barenaked Ladies will be in town to headline the 14th annual Treads & Threads on September 11. The under-the-stars fundraiser inside the Kansas Speedway oval is dedicated to the improvement of cancer care for patients at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. The evening will also feature gourmet treats from local restaurants, caterers and desert specialists, and the Emerald City Band is back by popular demand for dancing under the stars or a serenade during a victory lap on the track.

Downtown, music fans can take part in the musical stylings of two Grammy-award winning musicians on the Sprint Center stage. September 21 and 22, seven-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift will perform from her fifth studio recording 1989. One month later, Janet Jackson will re-establish her musical presence with the Unbreakable World Tour Oct. 27.

Festivals around Town

September is also the month for outdoor festivals such as the beautiful Plaza Art fair featuring distinguished artists from around the nation. In October, the focus turns to the art of smoke and sauce with the World Series of Barbecue the first weekend of the month.
