Kansas City SkylineIf you’re traveling to Kansas City for business and find yourself with a half day or an evening to yourself, why not make the most of your experience and see what our city has to offer? Even if you’re only in the KC area for a short time, you can take in some serious local flavor. With some of the best food in the Midwest, you won’t be disappointed by a run to a local barbecue joint. (We have plenty to choose from!) Also, we have an amazing art gallery, as well as an arts community with more small-ish galleries than you could take in with a short visit. Make your excursion easy by booking a chauffeur-driven luxury sedan to escort you from location to location.

1. Eat some famous Kansas City barbecue. You can’t leave Kansas City without tasting its legendary barbecue. There’s a long, proud tradition of serving up the very best ribs, brisket, pulled pork, and sauces this side of the Mississippi. Your best bet may be Oklahoma Joe’s, which has been voted the “Best of Kansas City” for many years running and was featured on the hit television show No Reservations. Gates, Woodyard, and Rosedale also have some truly excellent barbecue. B.B.’s Lawnside BBQ is a little out of the way, but it has great food and live blues most days of the week.  Jack Fiorella’s Jack Stack BBQ is famous for its burnt ends and crazy good baked beans.

2. Experience the art scene. If you’re planning to take in an exhibit at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, you won’t be disappointed. The museum is nothing short of an architectural marvel. The collections contained within range from European paintings to art from Imperial China. The Nelson also features a wealth of American photography from 1839 to present day. And, if you happen to be in town on the first Friday of the month, you’re in luck. Kansas City has one of the most vibrant, active art communities in the region. Have your chauffeur drop you off at the Crossroads Art District or the KCK Downtown Art Walk. All of the galleries are open for business well into the night, featuring work by talented local artists and offering complementary refreshments. It’s a carnival atmosphere with great people-watching potential. Even if you miss First Friday, you can visit many of these incredible local art galleries during the day.

3. Take in a game. If you’re a sports fan with a free afternoon in KC, you absolutely have to check out one of the local teams: the Royals, Chiefs, or T-Bones baseball club. Unless it’s a big game, you can usually find last-minute tickets online or at one of Kansas City’s state-of-the-art ball parks. If you’re a fan of Major League Soccer, check out Sporting Kansas City (2013 MLS Cup Champs). Racing fans should also look at the schedule for the Kansas Speedway, which hosts some of the biggest NASCAR sporting events in the country.
