October in Kansas City is getting better and better. For the second year in a row the Kansas City Royals repeated their post-season success, promising yet another Forever October moment for the city. Plus from a seasonal perspective, Kansas City is home to some of the nation’s top-ranked haunted houses. If you enjoy a good scare, the one thing you’ve got to do is visit the historic West Bottoms to explore the city’s haunted houses. Located along the 12th Street Bridge, the area is home to a number of well-known haunted houses including The Edge of Hell, Macabre Cinema, The Beast, The Chambers of Edgar Allen Poe and the Kansas City Ghost and Gangsters tour. Both The Beast and The Edge of Hell are ranked as the nation’s top, large-scale haunted houses in continuous operation.

On the Kansas Side

Not far from the West Bottoms area lies the Legends shopping area, Sporting Park and the Kansas Speedway. This month marks the return of the NASCAR Xfinity series at the Kansas Speedway. Mid-month, NASCAR fans from around the country will gather at the Kansas Speedway for the NASCAR qualifying race and ARCA 98.9 Under the Lights on Friday, Oct. 16. The next day, the NASCAR Xfinity series returns to the Speedway, followed by the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Partaking in Local Eats, Drinks and Music

This is also the time of year when Kansas Citians celebrate the city’s best in outdoor music, art, and food and drink, minus the crazy humidity. If you’re into the craft movement, local musicians and artisans producing limited-run specialty food, drink and consumer goods will be out in force this month at a number of locations throughout the city. There are also plenty of national acts that you won’t want to miss out on either.
